Overview

The Department of Home Science is one of the premier Department established under Sambalpur University in the year 1976. This Department is offering post graduate courses in MA/M.Sc (H.Sc., Human development and Family studies) with specialistions (i) Adolescent and Youth,(ii) Gender and Development ,(iii) Women Studies,(iv) gerontology and (v) Advanced Family Studies and M.Phill(H.Sc.) with specialization (i) Family studies, (ii) Community and public health nutrition and (iii) Child and Family welfare. Ph.D course as per new UGC guideline is also running from 2012.In the year 2010 UGC sanctioned two year M.Tech. course in Food Science and Technology in collaboration with School of Life Sciences and School of Chemistry under self financing course. M.Sc. (Food science and Nutrition) under self finance course started from 2011-12. In addition P.G. Diploma in Nutrition and dietitics is running from 2011. Over the year the Department is engaged in research and extension activities and produced good number of M.Phill and Ph.D. students. The students passed from this Department have qualified in NET and also employed in different colleges, NGO, dietitian in hospitals and other professional jobs..
