An institute named 'Madrasa Tibbia' was founded by a respected personality, Haziq-Ul-Mulk Hakim Abdul Majeed Khan Saheb in the year 1889. Later in March 1916, another great personality, Masih-Ul-Mulk Hakim Ajmal Khan Saheb rebuilt and transformed the Madrasa Tibbia into a new building situated at Karol Bagh, that came to be known as Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and Hospital. The then viceroy of India, H.E. Lord Hardinge laid the foundation stone of this institute. It was then inaugurated in February 1921 by the beloved Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The college got its affiliation to University of Delhi in the year 1973. Degrees awarded at this college includes Bachelor-of- Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) and Bachelor-of-Unani Medicine & Surgery(BUMS), either of which is a 4.5 year long course coupled with a 1 year long internship. The institute is a unit of 28 departments in total, 14 departments each for Ayurvedic medicine and Unani medicine. The hospital associated to the college has 150 beds where the students receive their practical knowledge.
