Overview

In December 1980, the Department of Educational Studies was established as an independent institute which was earlier a part of the Teachers College. Initially, it offered Ph.D. (Education) and M.Ed. The institute strives to grant education congruous with national and international standards. The institute paves way for innovation through teaching and research programs, and to manifest the idea of innovation, the M.Phil program began in 1983 to increase the interest of students in quality research projects. The research studies emphasize upon teacher education, educational management and administration, cognition and learning, psychology of education, mental health, gender education, ICT and language education. Besides these, three more programs have been introduced by the institute - M.A. (Educational Planning and Administration), M.Ed. (Elementary Education) and Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Management (PGDEM).<br />

M.Ed. (Elementary Education) program was introduced in 1997 and revolves around the intricate requirements of elementary education. This is a pioneering teacher education program and it includes an efficient mix of theoretical and practical knowledge. In 1984, M.A. (Educational Planning & Administration) was launched focusing on planning and administration. The institute has a platform in the form of Post Graduate Educational Association (PGEA) to promote the overall development of the students. PGEA hosts inter departmental competitions, workshops etc. for the students.
