Gargi College was established in the year 1967 and has come a long way since then, becoming one of the most coveted women's institutes for Sciences in the entire South Campus. The college has a wonderful history to its name. It was named after an enlightened woman, Gargi from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishada of the Vedic Age. As an intellectual and bold person, Gargi represents the spirit of inquiry blended with faith that's clearly visible when she puts forward her intelligent and challenging questions in front of the great sage Yajnavalkya. Mental potential of the entire race of Homo Sapiens- always in search for the ever-widening fields of knowledge, is very well portrayed by Gargi in the Upanishadas.
The college works on similar principles and firmly believes in inculcating the spirit of inquiry within every student who walks past the college premises, thereby evolving them into strong, intellectual and wholly developed individuals. Well-known for its outstanding faculty and staff, the college currently has 3800 students on its rolls.
The college offers courses in various disciplines- Science, Commerce, Humanities and a Teacher Training program in elementary education, making it the only college in the South Campus to offer courses in teacher training at the undergraduate level. Post graduate courses in English, Political Science and Chemistry are also available. The college's Department of Biotechnology was awarded Star College Grant and grant for establishing bioinformatics facility by Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India in 2009.

Gargi is a great college with nice bright buildings and a good infrastructure.
It has a really good environment with all these different societies and events happening. Classes too are generally engaging and interesting.
Also, with all the courses it offers, its amazing how higher education has never been more accessible, and there have never been more options for evxery type of budget, learning style, and goal. Having so many options is great.
It has its flaws too , that need to be monitored.
But over all , its a thums up.
Read full reviewGargi college holds a pretty good rating according to NAAC , but there is a lot of improvement that can be done.
Firstly, in form of infrastructure , the furniture and the classrooms need to be well maintained , organised and repaired. Proper cooling in summer months is a must. Also, a power backup which will make students more at ease. The washrooms are in a terrible condition.
The canteen is pretty good but there is always room for improvement. There is a stationary shop where you get all the required materials and books. The auditorium is well made.
The variety of courses is wide and BA Prog. Offers you a lot of choices. But a upgraded and elaborate syllabus for programme, with more readings and assignments will do students better.
Gargi college is one of the best colleges for science students.
The societies and the unions of the colleges are amazing and also there are a lot of opportunities in extra curricular and sport activities .

Read full reviewGargi is one of the best places you can be at if you manage to clear the cut off. It is needless to say that it has the best of faculty for most of the courses. During this year's NAAC inspection, Gargi managed to get an A grade and levelled up it's rating in comparison to many other top colleges of DU. Gargi is a land of opportunities and it provides you the environment to follow for dreams, be it academic research, dance, music, poetry or any other art form. You don't need Redbull if you are in Gargi, Gargi gives you wings to fly and conquer the skies. Last year, Gargi hosted a UK Exchange Program where students from universities of United Kingdom visited Gargi for 3 days and there was a cultural exchange among the students. Apart from this, Gargi is famous for it's annual fest Reverie which the 3rd best fest in the Delhi University and it's annual Diwali Mela. Recently, celebrities like Aditya Roy Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan came to Gargi for film promotions. Gargi is located in one of the best locations in Delhi, near places like Haus Khas, South extension, GK, Saket where the students hang out. All in all, Gargi is a place to be. Concluding this, I'd like to share a poem I wrote for my college
Dear Gargi,
I may not have said these things before but you my dear are my heaven. They say that heaven is a place on earth and not something in the sky above the clouds, they are right because you my dear is heaven. You are the liberating air, inhaling you fills me with love and colours. Oh the beautiful colours. Reds and greens are serene. Pinks and yellows and blues and all hues, you are the winter dew. I discovered my soul in the memories that you hold, but I can't live with you forever because I gotta fold. Fold the pieces of the soul for the world outside until I find another heaven where the soul can take flight!
