Indian Law Institute (ILI), established in 1956, has an aim of promoting and conducting legal research. The objectives of the ILI, which are laid down in its Memorandum of Association, are to cultivate research in the science of law so that the social, economic and other specific needs of the people of India can be met. The institute strives to improve level of legal education, enhance systemization of law, impart instructions in law, encourage and conduct investigations in legal and allied fields, and publish books, studies, journals regarding law. Being an autonomous body, the institute is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. ILI has the academic autonomy and requisite freedom to carry on with the fulfillment of its objectives. Library of the institute is its highlight comprising of more than 75,000 titles.
