Under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, The National Museum Institute of the History of Art, Conservation and Museology was found and certified on January 27, 1989. On April 28, 1989, the Institute was given the status of ‘deemed university’. Since its very origin, the Institute has been one of the leading centres in the country for training and research in the field of art and cultural heritage. To provide the students with direct exposure to the masterpieces of art and cultural heritage, the institute have an easy approach to the facilities of National Museum such as its laboratories and library. The institute is set up within the premises of the National Museum. In the year 1985, the programme was shifted to National Museum and its sphere was amplified to include the teaching of History of Art, covering both Ancient and Modern, Eastern and Western cultures. The institute is located in Janpath, New Delhi.
