School of Biotechnology, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), established in 1985 as the Special Centre for Biotechnology (CBT), under the sponsorship of UGC and the Government Ministry of Science and Technology’s Department of Biotechnology, was among the first six institutes in the country to offer a postgraduate programme in Biotechnology. CBT was founded with the goal to create qualified professionals that could keep the country up-to-speed with the advancements and innovations in the field of Biotechnology globally. Holding the potential to revolutionize the fields of health care, industry and agriculture, the study of Biotechnology has become increasingly popular. Upgraded to School of Biotechnology (SBT) in 2006, the institute is renowned for contributions to basic and applied Biotechnology research, with the teaching and research courses offered are considered among the best in the field.
