Overview

The University of Mumbai is one of the oldest and most reputed universities in India and Marathi ranks 19th in the list of most spoken languages in the world. Therefore, in the year 1969, the University of Mumbai established its Department of Marathi with an objective to deliver the richness of Marathi language and literature through the medium of higher education. It is wholly approved by UGC. A wide array of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree programs in Marathi are conducted by the Department. Various techniques and methodologies are adopted by the well-acclaimed teaching faculty of this institute, to impart high-quality education to the students. Students here are encouraged to work in various new and interdisciplinary areas. The primary aim of the institute is to produce well-read, self-aware, intellectual, culturally-rich and responsible citizens of the world.
