Overview

Lok Kala Academy was set up in the year 2004 as an integral department of the University of Mumbai. The principle objective of this institute is to prepare students in a way that they can gain the maximum opportunities in the growing fields of Performing Folk Arts, Folk Performances Administration and Folk Research. The students are also trained to fully utilize the opportunities of mass communication and education through Folk Performances, thereby helping students to engage with print media and electronic media through a Folk-Culture background. The college runs a postgraduate diploma and an undergraduate certificate course in Performing Folk Arts. These courses are affiliated with the University of Mumbai and are well-recognized and approved by the NAAC, AIU and UGC. The institute focuses on both theoretical and practical aspects of the field, thereby instilling leadership qualities into its students and transforming them into competent and responsible individuals.
