Overview

The Bharat Education Society was started in 1948 by late Shri. Bahusaheb D. Balkan war, the great educationist, freedom fighter and social worker who was awarded Basawaratna by late Dr. Zail Singh, acting president of India.

The primary objective of starting Bharat Education Society in Khetwadi area was to help extend education to the underprivileged in South Mumbai, especially in Khetwadi. He was supported by social workers, industrialists, politicians, philanthropist, educationists and the notable among them are Late Padmavibhushan Dr. Usha Mehta, who was the chairperson of Bharat Education Society for about a decade and a half.
