Overview

Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy School of Art was established in 1857. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The School at present stands in the heritage building with departments of drawing and painting, sculpture and modelling, mural, portraiture, printmaking, etc. It was established with the aim of providing European academic art knowledge in the sub-continent, the college developed with the establishment of art and craft departments with the rich diversity of culture in India as the resource point. The school has given India some of its revolutionary artists making a global impact on art like Vasudev Gaitonde, Akbar Padamsee and so on. It holds a strong ground providing training in all the technical aspects of fine arts, with exposure to all the mediums. Some of the courses proffered by the institute are Diploma in Sculpture & Modelling, M.F.A. Painting in Portrait, etc.
