The National Institute of Virology was established in 1952 as the Virus Research Centre (VRC) by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Rockefeller Foundation (RF), USA. The institute with affiliation to Savitribai Phule Pune University, has developed a strong foundation in the scientific world. It strives to impart high-quality education and practical training in the field of virology. The main aim of the institute is to train and nurture industry professionals and experts who will serve as catalysts for the industry. The institute hopes to produce professionals who will become an integral part of the society and work towards the betterment of it using their highly adept skill set in the field of virology. The National Institute of Virology has been reputed to be among the major institutes that come under ICMR.
