Overview
The jurisdiction of the University extended originally to the states of Meghalaya and Nagaland and the erstwhile Union Territories of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. With the establishment of the Nagaland University on 6th September 1994, the jurisdiction of NEHU ceased over Nagaland. Likewise with the establishment of the Mizoram University the jurisdiction of NEHU over Mizoram also ceased from June, 2001. Arunachal Pradesh has its own university. However the North-Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology located in Arunachal Pradesh is affiliated to NEHU.

Course Eligibility
Candidate should have Bachelor's degree or equivalent in the relevant subject from any recognized University. First preference will be given to candidates with Anthropology and second preference to candidates with Geography/ Sociology/ Zoology/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Home Science or Mass Communication.

Candidate should have Bachelor's Degree (Hons) in Geography/ Geology/ Earth Sciences/ Life Sciences/ Agricultural Sciences/ Physical Sciences/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Environmental Sciences/ B.E. or B.Tech. (Electronics/ IT/ Computer Sciences/ Telecom)/ B.Arch./ B. Plan. or B.C.A./ M.C.A. with Minimum of 60% of marks from any recognized University.
