Following the liberation of Goa and with considerable backing of the Government, the University of Bombay, established a Centre for Post-Graduate Instruction and Research in June 1965 in Panaji. This subsequently grew into the seat of post-graduate education (master's and doctoral) in the state of Goa. With a modest beginning with only a few departments in the temporary premises during early years, the University moved to its present location on Taleigao Plateau in 1992 with its own buildings designed by the famous architect Shri. Satish Gujral. The campus became the main campus of the university.
