In the year 1980, Gulbarga University was found by an Act of Karnataka State. It has 38 post-graduate departments and 4 post-graduate centres. The University takes about 3500 students annually for various post-graduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in various fields. There are about 160 faculty members and about 700 technical and non-technical supporting staff. There are around 305 colleges affiliated to this University, which enrol graduate and diploma courses in arts, fine arts, music, social sciences, science & technology, commerce, law and education. It is one of the prescient Universities to implement the 'outreach model' of education. It aims to ideate growth for socio-economic alteration and sustainable development. Courses are extended in the field of arts, commerce, fine arts, music, social sciences, technology, education and law. They impart relevant knowledge, competence and creativity in students to face global challenges and elevate participation of all the stakeholders in the evolution of the University and the region. It is looked upon as an oasis of lore, wisdom and learning, research and extension in an otherwise backward or impoverished zone of Hyderabad Karnataka, it has emerged as a forerunner of the positive social transfiguration of an instrument of progress and a medium of inclusive and substantial growth.
