Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), was established in 1976 by an Act of the Haryana Legislative Assembly with a purpose to promote and facilitate inter-disciplinary higher education and research across the fields of environmental, ecological and life sciences. Initially known as Rohtak University, the university received its current name in 1978. Spread across a 665 acre campus, MDU is recognised by UGC and has been accredited by NAAC as an 'A' Grade University. More than 580 institutions/colleges from 10 districts within the state of Haryana are affiliated with MDU and offer courses from a multitude of subjects. MDU directly offers distance education programmes and courses from the following fields: Commerce, Law, Education, Humanities, Life Sciences, Management Sciences, Performing and Visual Arts, Engineering and Technology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
