Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersay Women's University, commonly known as SNDT University was founded in the year 1916 by Maharshi Dr Dhondo Keshav Karve and happens to be the first ever Women's University in India as well as in the South-East-Asia. The primary objective behind the establishment of this University was to develop an inclusive society that supports and promotes human rights for all with a special focus on women empowerment. The University has multiple campuses, two of which are in Mumbai and one is in Pune. It is fully approved and well-recognized by the Govt. of Maharashtra, NAAC and the University Grant Commission (UGC). A humongous number of students, approximately 70,00 have been enrolled in at SNDT University. The University also takes care of its three secondary schools for girls which it had inherited. It is known to deliver education of highest quality through its wide range of relevant courses in the regular and non-formal streams.
