VIT University was initially founded as Vellore Engineering College on 5 July 1984 by Dr. G Viswanathan, a former parliamentarian and minister in the government of Tamil Nadu. Started initially with a relatively small campus and only three undergraduate engineering courses — civil, mechanical, and electronics and communication — the college continued to progress under the able leadership of G. Viswanathan.
The college was initially affiliated with Madras University. In 1999 Vellore Engineering College was awarded the ISO 9002 certificate for three years by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) of the Netherlands, making VEC the first educational institute in India to achieve this recognition. In June 2001 the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development conferred VEC as a ‘deemed university’ and the college became VIT University.
Being in VIT is a dream come true for anyone aspiring to be an engineer. The faculty is extremely humble, learned and operative. It has an amazing campus with everything that a student looks for. Being a hostellite, the hostel and mess is as crucial for me as the faculty nd course is. And my experience here has been wonderful, during the span of two years i coul get a single chance to complaint against anything in the hostel. The college maintains its integrity and is as strick as a college can be. ( Which is a disadvantage for the students at times) but it is something that can be ignored. It is worth spendi money on. I can recommend this university to anyone planning to pursue engineering in future.Read full review
