Overview
The School of Advanced Sciences (SAS) includes Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics divisions. The school offers M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in these disciplines. The faculty of the school comprises qualified and goal-oriented members whose research expertise include major frontier areas in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Currently, the faculty strength of the school is 159. In addition, the school benefits from the service of 33 non-teaching staff members.
The curriculum keeps abreast of the latest advancements in the respective domains and endeavors to develop scientists of high quality. Graduates from the school are much sought-after by companies in India and many have secured admissions in prestigious institutions and companies abroad.
The college was initially affiliated with Madras University. In 1999 Vellore Engineering College was awarded the ISO 9002 certificate for three years by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) of the Netherlands, making VEC the first educational institute in India to achieve this recognition. In June 2001 the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development conferred VEC as a ‘deemed university’ and the college became VIT University.
